A Parent's Guide to Our Classroom!

“Encourage and support your kids because children are apt to live up to what you believe in them.” -Lady Bird Johnson

Hello everyone! Here's some information about our classroom and our daily happenings. If you haven't already, please subscribe to this blog to receive email notices when new posts are made.

Specials Monday: Computer Tuesday: P.E. Don’t forget sneakers! Wednesday: Music and library Thursday: Art Friday: Guidance Behavior Plan B.U.G. Jar- B.U.G. stands for Being Uniquely Great. When the entire class goes above and beyond expectations, we will add a bug to the jar (don’t worry they are not real bugs…) Once the jar is full we will have a class celebration such as a movie and PJ day! Cole’s Cash!- We have a classroom economy. Students are able to earn 3 dollars a day for following directions and completing work. They can earn extra dollars throughout the day for being kind and helping others. Students will be able to purchase rewards with their earnings. Consequences-In the event that a student is not following expectations these steps will be taken: Step 1) Verbal Warning Step 2) Spend choice time reflecting with the teacher. Step 3) Parent Contact Step 4) Parent Meeting

Homework Homework is an important aspect of second grade. It aids in teaching students responsibility and time management. It also helps prepare them for the rigor of future grades. Every week your student will receive a weekly homework packet in their folder to help organize their time. This packet will need to be signed by a parent and returned with all assignments by the Monday of the following week. Homework will include the following:

  • Reading for 15 minutes

  • Spelling practice

  • Math Worksheets

  • The occasional project or special assignment

Supplies

  • Students will need to bring a backpack and homework folder to school daily. Please check your child’s folder daily for notes and updates.

  • Please have your child bring a healthy snack with them to school. we will have one afternoon snack daily.

  • All pens, pencils, glue sticks, markers etc… are provided by the teacher.

  • Students may need a set of coloring utensils, pencils and scissors at home for homework assignments. (I will lend supplies to those who need them just let me know!).

  • Please leave personal items and toys at home unless for a special occasion or with the teacher’s permission.
